Support us through your
Bar & Bat Mitzvah

As you are approaching your special day, we would like to wish you a Mazel Tov from Israel, hoping you have an unforgettable celebration which will bring joy to you and your loved ones!

Bar or Bat Mitzvah, literally meaning "son of" or "daughter of"Mitzvah, means that as a young Jewish person attains religious maturity, he or she becomes responsible to fulfill the Torah commandments, or Mitzvot (good deeds). One of the most important aspects of this meaningful celebration we, the Jewish people, go through for thousands of years is the actual Mitzvah and the way you choose to make a positive impact on the world surrounding you. By performing Mitzvot the Jews strive to bring justice and compassion to the world, each one of us trying to make it a better place, one good deed at a time – what we in Hebrew call Tikun Olam, repairing the world.

IDFWO-IDF Widows and Orphans Organization is an Israeli organization that since 1991 supports widows and orphans who have lost their dearest ones while defending our Israel. Today we work with over 5,000 widows from all Israeli wars and about 3,000 young orphans, doing our best to put smiles on their faces every single day.

We at IDFWO invite you to mark this important milestone in your life with a special and unique Mitzvah of your own. We would be proud and honored to connect you to one of our many projects, as by supporting them you will be able to make a huge difference in a life of a widow or an orphan whose father or mother lost their lives in defense of Israel and the Jewish people.

We would love to discuss the opportunities and make a tailored - made project just for you and your special day. Please feel free to contact Daniel at office@idfwo.org for further information on your personal project.

Projects:

Otzma (Strength) Youth Camps

Four times a year hundreds of teen orphans go for 5 days of retreats in north of Israel or the Red Sea resort of Eilat in the south, hiking, scuba diving, celebrating holidays and having a good time together. This is a crucial part of their therapy, meeting other children who have also lost a parent, learning they are not the only ones whom the tragedy has struck while feeling free to speak of what they are going through every single day.

We invite you to sponsor an orphan attending these camps, giving her or him an opportunity to have a time of her and his life!

Cost per child per retreat - $300

Cost per child for four annual retreats - $1,200

Bar & Bat Mitzvah Celebration in Jerusalem

A Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration is a milestone in a young Jewish person's life, yours and an Israeli child's one. However, with our children this great happiness is also accompanied by great pain. This celebration- like all things in their lives- stands in the shadow of loss. For every girl that is celebrating her Bat Mitzvah, and for every boy that is celebrating his Bar Mitzvah this day represents togetherness- with family and friends, but also great loneliness. This day stands as a clear reminder that their fathers can only be present in spirit, in their hearts. The shadow of their fathers is always present; he smiles at them but only from photographs. There is no one, of course, that can ever replace him. The father that has been taken away from them can never be returned.

IDFWO takes the children to an unforgettable day in Jerusalem, touring theOld City and celebrating their Bar and Bat Mitzvah's at the Western Wall. In the evening, a huge party is organized, celebrating this special day with the President of Israel Mr. Shimon Peres, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, Minister of Defense Mr. Ehud Barak and hundreds of family members and friends.

We invite you to sponsor a Bar Mitzvah celebration in Jerusalem, providing an orphan with an incredible day of tradition, religion and fun with family and friends!

Cost per child for a Bar & Bat Mitzvah celebration - $1,200

Computer Classroom & Courses Project

Established in central Israel and in the Druze village of Yirka in the North of the country, give the widows with much more than knowledge of modern technology, as they will provide them with a reason to leave the loneliness of their homes, meet with other women who understand them and feel their pain. Many of our widows lost their husbands in 1967 or 1973, even prior to that, and are women of different generation and times who never received proper education. These women were left in their tragic with small children, at home, unable to invest in their studies. The state of the art computer classrooms with professional courses IDFWO will provide them with is a wonderful opportunity to start over and learn important tools, while spending time in a secure environment.

We invite you to provide a widow with an opportunity to study, but also to have a reason to leave the loneliness of their homes and share her thoughts with other women who understand her so well.

Cost per computer classroom $7,100

Cost per computer course - $4,300-Includes 64 hour course with
a professional teacher

Total - $11,400

University Scholarships for IDF Orphans

Returning to the classroom after military service is an important and costly decision for every Israeli. For IDF orphans whose mothers are the only providers since their fathers did not come home from duty, the coveted diploma and acquiring a profession proves to be a difficult challenge. In the absence of a father that could support them on their way of achieving their academic and professional aspirations many find themselves falling behind, unable to succeed alone.

We invite you to provide an orphan with an opportunity to study at a University, reach her and his potential and become a proud and productive citizen of Israel.

Cost per scholarship at Israeli University or College - $1,000

Grants and Loans for IDF Widows

There are times when families run into small bumps on the road. When two working people manage the household these difficult times are much easier to get out of. Not only because two paychecks are making their way to the bank but also the moral support the partners give each other. The knowledge that someone is standing beside you, carrying half the burden, is immensely important. For IDF widows there is no longer that someone, that person who will hear their fears and comfort them, the burden of keeping a family afloat in difficult times is completely left up to the widow. When financial difficulties are accompanied by the deep sense of solitude every financial pitfall can seem like an impossible mission to overcome.

We invite you to make a life of a family just a bit easier, providing it with honor they deserve.

Cost per Grant or Loan - $1,000

Saluting the Inductees

The moment of induction into the IDF is one of the most important and memorable moments in the life of teenagers in Israel. It is a cornerstone where one goes from youth into adulthood. IDF orphans make this step without their fathers accompanying them to the draft office. Without their fathers visiting them in basic training, or when they stay on base for the weekend. They make this step without hearing their dad's memories of when he was a young soldier. They embark on this journey with the painful memory of that knock at the door that changed their lives, of their mother's cry, and the aching silence that followed.

We invite you to support our young soldiers, providing them with essential equipment and a warm present as they join the IDF.

Cost per inducting soldier - $1,000

On behalf of our widows and orphans, Mazel Tov and thank you!
