IDFWO´s Response to COVID-19

Event Cancellations and Postponements:

According to Ministry of Health Regulations, IDFWO has canceled or postponed all events in the near future. Any events we were able to postpone have been postponed indefinitely. We are doing what we can to make sure that IDF Widows and Orphans still get the support they need.

Otzma Quarantine Kit:

During every school break in Israel, IDF Orphans aged 6-18 have a safe place to go: Otzma "Strength" Camps. However, this year's Otzma Pesach Camp will unfortunately not take place... at least not as it was planned. IDF Orphans were supposed to enjoy school break together in sunny Eilat, but drastic measures have been taken to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Israel, and both school and camp has been canceled.

This is why, instead of Otzma Pesach Camp, IDFWO chose to start an Otzma Quarantine Camp. We have been sending IDF Orphans packages full of crafts, games, and sports equipment so that they can keep their minds and bodies active during the quarantine. Many activities will also be held online, so that orphans can attend camp virtually and stay in touch with their friends and counselors. To make these activities possible, we need your help! We want to show IDF Orphans that they can still count on their generous supporters from around the world during these tough times.

Phone Calls to Widows and Orphans:

Though IDFWO staff has mostly been working from home according to Ministry of Health guidelines, we have been dedicated to calling all organization Members to see what we can do to help. We started by calling our most vulnerable population: widows over 80, and will continue until we've talked to all 8,000 widows and orphans we care for. We are doing this to show them that we are here for them in their time of need, and to make sure that they are happy, healthy, and have access to food and essential medical supplies.

Pesach Vouchers for Widows in Need:

Every year, we provide Pesach vouchers for widows in need so that they can get Kosher for Passover groceries and enjoy a Seder with their families. This year, we have had more requests than usual, and are making sure that every widow that needs a voucher gets one. Help us give widows the opportunity to celebrate a happy and kosher Pesach this year!

Mentor Program:

Though our mentors cannot physically meet with the orphans they{re paired with, they are continuing their weekly meetings digitally! They continue to provide support to our orphans by being a role model and extending a helping hand. Their dedication to their volunteer work is inspiring.
