The IDFWO’s “Widow Adopts a Widow” program is one of our most essential and unique programs. A ‘veteran’ widow ‘adopts’ a new widow who has recently joind the circle of bereavement and needs the support of someone who has suffered a similar loss.
Our ‘veteran’ widows meet with a professional advisor every three weeks to tailor their counseling according to each widow’s needs. Both widows are tremendously impacted by this program, and form deep friendships.
The holidays are a tough time for bereaved families, which is why we decided to brighten them up for our IDF widows by sending them a gift to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year.

Widows face many challenges, among them financial one. Moving from a two-income to a single-income household suddenly can be very challenging.
This is why the IDFWO provides need-based financial grants to all widows who apply. This helps relieve some of their financial stress. As part of this program, widows are also connected to a financial specialist who can help them decide how to manage their money and help their family get back on their feet.
Give a widow the gift of financial stability for $2,500
Every year, over 500 widows gather together at a different location in Israel for the IDFWO’s Annual Widows’ Retreat.
The retreat is both relaxing and therapeutic, and gives the widows an opportunity to disconnect and to take care of themselves. They make great friends with other widows who understand them better than anyone, while going on day trips, attending lectures and workshops, and being entertained by famous comedians and musicians.
Send a widow to a retreat for $900
IDFWO offers several different university level courses for widows. When widows lose their spouse, they often become the sole bread-winner of the house, which is why we decided to give them the opportunity to gain new skills so that they can find a stable job or move forward in their careers.
These courses are also a great place for widows to make friends, and for retired widows to remain active and to learn new skills.

IDFWO’s regional offices organizes fun activities for widows that live in a specific region. We have offices around the country that ensure that widows receive both the care they need and access to fun and educational activities.
Every year IDFWO organizes a Rejuvenating Day Trip for IDF widows, widowers, and adult orphans, during which they enjoy meals, lectures, lecture activities, and lots of fun! This gives them a well-deserved break from their routine.
Send a widow on a Rejuvenating Day Trip for $118
The IDFWO singing group brings widows and adult orphans together to rehearse once a week, to enjoy singing together, and to make new friends. They sing together at organized events, and bring joy to the whole IDFWO community.
The IDFWO provides Medical Grants to all widows, widowers, and adult orphans who need them for anything from dental surgery to cancer treatment. This gives them both financial security, and shows them that they will never have to face these difficult situations alone.
When IDF widows reach the age of 80, IDFWO shows their support and admiration for this Age of Wonders. The IDFWO Chairwoman or a Board Member shows up personally to give them a gift for their birthday.
